As a food enthusiast, you have probably come across at least a few topics discussing whether deep frying can make even the cheapest food taste great. Do you know what ingredient is universal for popular dishes, such as mozzarella balls, fish sticks, and chicken parmigiana? Bread crumbs!

With the food market evolving, we weren’t surprised that there are many different variations of this old-school ingredient. Today, you can find these variations modified according to the latest diet trends.

Eager to have a taste and see what has changed over the past couple of decades, we have created a list of the best bread crumbs currently available. Let’s get started!

Bread Crumbs Reviews

Pork King Pork Rind Crumbs

No products found.

One of the biggest issues that people have with original bread crumbs is that they may not be the healthiest ingredient out there given the high carb content. That is why companies such as Pork King are doing their best to offer relevant substitutes that may be even tastier. Honestly, we were quite excited to put this product to the test.

The first thing that you should know is that these “bread crumbs” aren’t suitable for anyone on a low-fat diet or those who aren’t allowed to eat pork. However, for other regimes, such as paleo, keto, and gluten-free diets, it may be just the perfect choice. We were happy to find that you are getting exactly what you paid, as this product is 100% pork rinds and there isn’t a single gram of carbs.

As soon as the 12-ounce jar arrived, we tried these ground crumbs with a couple of different recipes, including veal parmigiana and classic mozzarella balls. Our main conclusion is that the rinds are incredibly simple to use and are even better for certain recipes than regular bread crumbs. In terms of crunchiness, we would rate these 10 out of 10.

The issue with most packaging is that you can’t get a whole scoop without having to maneuver the jar around. Luckily, Pork King made theirs user-friendly, so you don’t have to deal with this problem.

We have to say that the price of this product is quite high, and it may not be affordable for most home cooks (given the quantity you are getting). On the other hand, if you were to buy fresh pork rinds, the amount of time and energy it would take to turn them into crumbs potentially justifies the higher price.

Our favorite feature of this product is that a single serving had only 90 calories. Plus, you are getting a mouthful of crunch with every single bite.

Michelle Farms Gluten-Free Italian Bread Crumbs

In the process of creating our list, we learned more about some companies that have been on the rise, including Michelle Farms. Founded back in 2012, this brand seems to offer healthier replacements to common kitchen staples, which is why we weren’t surprised to find gluten-free bread crumbs. Are these worth it? Let’s take a look.

These crumbs come in a 9-ounce container that equals just around 8 servings on average. The most important point is that, unlike some other affordable bread crumbs, these don’t include any artificial ingredients or hydrogenated oils. On top of all that, they are highlighted by a low caloric value of around 100 kcal per 1 ounce.

To be honest, we had a lot of fun cooking with these. The main ingredients are rice flour, cane sugar, yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, basil pepper, and a couple of other Italian herbs that add to the specific taste. Keep in mind that if you are looking for crunch, it isn’t anywhere near as present as in the aforementioned product.

Still, there isn’t any gluten, and the taste is on point. This makes them a good alternative if you are on a specific diet and want to enjoy a cozy meal.

Progresso Bread Crumbs Italian Style

No products found.

Coming from one of the most recognized names in the industry, this wasn’t our first time using this product. Offering a comforting taste and highlighted by a classic formula, one would think that you can’t go wrong with these crumbs.

Out of the products that we have reviewed so far, this one is the closest to the original concept of bread crumbs. They are incredibly easy to be used for breading, frying, and topping. However, we have one major concern. While quality wheat flour is the first ingredient, there are a lot of artificial additives.

This can affect your health, as well as the taste of your food. On the other hand, if affordable and old-school is what you are looking for, then you should definitely give Progresso Bread Crumbs a chance.

Kikkoman Panko Bread Crumbs

No products found.

Before even ordering any products, we were hoping to come across Kikkoman bread crumbs. The popular Japanese style makes these an excellent all-around choice that you can get great use out of.

There are a couple of good points that we found with this product. First, the crumbs are made out of crustless crispy bread. We were able to taste the quality and also had an easy time when it came to breading our onion rings and chicken nuggets.

Secondly, the crunch was almost the same as the one that we got with the Pork Rinds which is certainly a great sign given the fact that the structure is completely different. On top of all that, you are getting good value, as there are two 8-ounce boxes for an affordable price.

Our concern is that these crumbs come unseasoned, which may not be ideal for those who enjoy premade Italian herb bread crumbs. Still, it shouldn’t be a deal-breaker, as you still have the freedom to add desired spices.

Vigo Italian Style Seasoned Bread Crumbs

No products found.

What good is a review if we don’t represent at least one product that can complement Italian cuisine? Highlighted by fresh bread crumbs, a variety of herbs, and tasty Pecorino, Vigo did a nice job with this product.

While we are always skeptical when there is more than just bread in a crumb mix, this product impressed us. The extra cheese adds the right amount of salt to the mix without overpowering it. Most importantly, the texture is perfect for breading and deep-frying.

On the other hand, you shouldn’t expect to get a lot of crunch from it, as the freshly baked bread and spices are completely crushed.

Wrap Up

In the end, we were quite satisfied with all five products. However, the one that stands out for us has to be the Pork King Pork Rind Bread Crumbs. This product is a fantastic substitute for those on a keto diet, as well as anyone else who wants to try something new and enjoy a spectacular crunch in the process.

If you are looking to go more traditional, then the Kikkoman crumbs are a safe bet. They come at an affordable price and are made out of high-quality crustless bread!
